STELION Booster Station achieves ATEX certification for safe hydrogen compression
Hydros Power has obtained ATEX certification for STELION Booster Station, its electric booster for the compression of hydrogen and other gases, designed to support refuelling and gas transfer operations in applications where conventional infrastructure is not available.
This milestone expands the equipment’s European conformity framework following the completion of its CE marking process and reinforces one of the principles that has guided the product’s development from the outset: safety.
The certification opens up new opportunities for the commercial deployment and integration of STELION Booster Station in projects where potentially explosive atmospheres may occur, providing operators, integrators and industrial customers with greater confidence when working with hydrogen and other technical gases within the equipment’s intended scope.

STELION Booster Station combines ATEX certification with compact, electric and oil-free hydrogen compression
ATEX-certified hydrogen booster for compression
The properties of hydrogen require particular attention to the design of the equipment used for its storage, transfer and compression. Systems intended to operate in environments where flammable gases may be present must therefore incorporate specific measures to prevent ignition sources and reduce the risks associated with their operation.
ATEX certification confirms that STELION Booster Station has been designed and assessed in accordance with the requirements applicable to equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
For Hydros Power, this process has not simply involved adapting an existing product. Safety forms part of the equipment’s core architecture and has influenced the selection of components, mechanical design, electrical installation and control systems from the earliest stages of development.
The combination of CE marking and ATEX certification therefore strengthens the position of STELION Booster Station as a compact hydrogen compression solution in which safety has been integrated from the design stage.
An electric, compact and oil-free gas booster
STELION Booster Station is an electric gas booster developed to compress hydrogen and other technical gases autonomously, safely and easily.
Its compact architecture facilitates installation in applications such as the refuelling of light vehicles, drones and UAV platforms, hydrogen supply for laboratories and universities, gas transfer in industrial processes, and the deployment of energy solutions in locations without access to a conventional refuelling station.
Its electric operation removes the need for external hydraulic or pneumatic systems to drive the compression process. In addition, its oil-free architecture helps prevent gas contamination, an especially important feature for fuel cell applications and high-purity hydrogen systems.

The equipment integrates automatic pressure control, an HMI touchscreen interface and different operating modes to simplify user interaction. These include an automatic mode that automates the filling process, together with the ability to adjust the booster’s parameters to operate at different target pressures on both the inlet and discharge sides.
As a result, the system can manage the compression process with less manual intervention while facilitating its integration into larger installations.
Safety at the core of STELION Booster Station
Obtaining ATEX certification is the result of a development process in which both the risks associated with hydrogen and the real operating conditions of the equipment have been assessed.
STELION Booster Station incorporates a safety architecture based on multiple layers of protection, sealing systems, operational variable monitoring, gas filtration and shutdown mechanisms for abnormal conditions.
These measures are complemented by a control interface designed to provide users with clear information about the system status, operating pressures and potential alarms. The aim is to keep the technical complexity of compression within the equipment while making its operation simple and predictable.
This combination of safety, automation and ease of use makes STELION Booster Station particularly suitable for organisations seeking a compact and automated solution for working with hydrogen without taking on the operational complexity of a large-scale compression facility.
ATEX-certified hydrogen booster opens new opportunities
ATEX certification marks a further step in the commercial development of STELION Booster Station, which is already entering the deployment phase. Following the completion of its CE conformity process, Hydros Power is now expanding the product’s scope and facilitating its implementation in environments where potentially explosive atmospheres may occur.
This milestone enables the booster to be used across new sectors and industrial scenarios, creating opportunities in applications that require specific safety measures for the compression of hydrogen and other gases. STELION Booster Station therefore strengthens its position as a versatile solution capable of adapting to a broader range of requirements.
With STELION Booster Station, Hydros Power continues to pursue its goal of making hydrogen more accessible, easier to use and safer, offering an alternative for environments where conventional infrastructure is too complex, costly or difficult to implement.
